The goal of Allied Health Academy is to prepare students to work in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography field. The student will successfully complete an eighteen month course to receive a diploma, and our aim is to ensure that the student passes the correlating American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. The school limits the scope of background education and experience required by students in order to achieve these goals faster than a traditional second baccalaureate program. All students must be physically able to perform the duties of a sonographer. These duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

    • Standing for long periods of time
    • Exhibiting proficient hand eye coordination
    • Ability to rotate wrists
    • Lifting patients from wheelchair to stretchers
    • Lifting at least 25 Lbs.
    • Pushing 200 Lbs. on wheels

Prerequisites:

The student must have the following prerequisites in order be accepted to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

      1. The student must have graduated from a two year Allied Health Program or
      2. The student must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

All students must take a Wonderlic test (given at the facility) and obtain a score of 15 or higher.

Additional Requirements:

      • Official Transcripts from ALL previous colleges or universities attended
      • Copy of any healthcare certifications (If applicable)
      • Two Letters of Reference
      • Student must be able to pass a criminal background check
      • Student must receive Child Abuse History Clearance
      • Fingerprinting

Medical Requirements: (If you have insurance some or all shots may be covered)

      • Varicella: titer $125 or 2 doses $150
      • Tuberculosis: $15
      • Hepatitis shots B: Three shots $50 each, total $150
      • Urine Drug Screen: $40-$50
